WeShine Village Application and Information

Village Application & Waitlists

Applying to a WeShine Village

Our villages offer transitional shelter and wraparound support for unhoused individuals in Portland. Please read the information below before reaching out — it will likely answer your questions.

Applications are currently paused

We are not accepting new applications at this time due to the volume of applications already being processed. If you contact us, we will add your information to our list and reach out as soon as applications reopen.

Parkrose Village — temporary notice

Construction is currently underway at Parkrose and we are not placing new clients there until it is complete. If you had requested Parkrose, please let us know if you are willing to be placed on the waitlist for Avalon or St. Andrews instead.

The application process

1

Complete and submit an application

Complete an application (online or on paper), answering every question as fully as you can — it is okay to ask someone to help you. Once complete, submit it by:

  •  Mail: WeShine Initiative, 3439 NE Sandy Blvd. #525, Portland, OR 97232

  •  Email: shelter@weshinepdx.org

Note: If your application cannot be processed because the waitlist is full, or you do not qualify for a village, a staff member will contact you to let you know.

2

Interview and orientation

When an opening becomes available, a village staff member will contact you to arrange an interview. They will review the Good Guest Agreement with you, which you will be required to sign before being accepted. Staff will also arrange for you to meet current villagers and attend a Village Council Meeting.

Note: If accepted, a separate move-in date will be scheduled. Move-in will not take place on the same day as the interview and orientation.

3

If you have a pet

Cats and dogs are welcome. You will need to bring your pet to the village during your interview so they can meet other pets and villagers. Pets must be friendly toward animals and people, and must be up to date on vaccinations before move-in.

4

If you have a vehicle

There is no on-site parking at Avalon or St. Andrews — street parking only. At Parkrose, vehicles may be parked on church property overnight only if the driver is licensed and the vehicle is registered and insured.

5

Moving in

If accepted, a staff member will help you schedule your move-in day which will take place on a separate day from your interview and orientation. You may bring personal belongings that fit in WeShine-provided storage (approximately 3 medium-sized garbage bags). Outside furniture — dressers, mattresses, tables, rugs, etc. — is not permitted in the pods.
